for a lion and his lioness

once upon a time
there was a lion
and a lioness of his
they played upon
the grassy fields
until the storm came in
he was a kind and gentle lion
she striking and so sweet
they loved each other for a time
‘till some confusion set in
the lion went one way in life
the lioness reigned free
until the day they met again
in a bitter-sweet reverie
the lion had a cub at home
the lioness had one too
those two felt the pull again
the same as years ago
she whisked away his heart again
with her smile so sweet
his charms so mischief filled
her heart doth take away
now they play again together
in some more grassy fields
the four of them
now not just two
and that’s their little tale
